The Sheriff of Mecklenburg County is required to enforce and carry out orders of the court that are directed to him per North Carolina General Statute. A civil judgment is a post-judgment remedy; it is a judicial order issued by the court which has rendered the judgment. An order or writ from the court is directed to a particular sheriff and requires the enforcement of the order as described by North Carolina General Status, to pay or satisfy the judgment of the court.

The remedy of a civil judgment is the power of the court protecting the rights of the parties and requiring the sheriff to perform certain duties as prescribed by law. A civil judgment is one method for obtaining payment of a money judgment.
