Community Engagement

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Team consist of detention officers and deputies who bring different operational perspectives and diverse backgrounds which will provide a better overall experience for the citizens of Mecklenburg County.

Sheriff McFadden has a proven track record of community engagement and love for the service of others. As stated in the Task Force on 21st Century Policing; “Trust and legitimacy grow from positive interactions based on more than just enforcement interactions. Law enforcement agencies can achieve trust and legitimacy by establishing a positive presence at community activities and events, participating in proactive problem solving, and ensuring that communities have a voice and seat at the table working with officers.”

The mission of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Team is to broaden partnerships between the community and the Sheriff’s Office, to educate the community on the Sheriff’s role and other initiatives going on our local criminal justice system, to provide outreach and to purposefully engage those that we serve to establish trust and confidence in your Sheriff’s Office.

Active Shooter

Active shooter incidents happen quickly and are often unpredictable. Do you know what to do if an active shooter incident occurs? Training and preparedness are critical during any crisis. Having a plan and knowing how to implement it will increase the chance of keeping everyone safe in the event of an active shooter situation. The goal of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Community Engagement Team is to provide you with essential information to prepare you for the unexpected.

Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation. Currently in North Carolina, Charlotte is #1 in the state for Human Trafficking and the state itself is #6 in the nation. Attend one of our information sessions to learn more about Human Trafficking and how to recognize the signs.

Harmful Effects of Vaping

E-cigarettes are electronic devices that heat a liquid (oil) and produce an aerosol or mix of small particles in the air. Most teens assume using these devices (vaping) are safer than using traditional tobacco products. MCSO's presentation on "Harmful Effects on Vaping" provides you with information to understand why these products are dangerous and how they can cause lasting implications to your lungs.

Opioid Awareness

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others. On average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. Come join MCSO's Community Engagement Team to learn more about the dangers of these drugs.
