Sex Offender Search

Sex Offenders threaten the safety of our community and all of our citizens, particularly the most vulnerable – our children. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office works closely with the community we serve, as well as local agencies dedicated to the well-being of our citizens. We recognize, however, that we cannot – in isolation – take on the job of protecting our citizens from sex offenders. Because we have limited resources, we must form a strong coalition of partners who share the same vision with regards to sex offender management.
MCSO truly believes that education is critical to help the public recognize the danger of sex offenders who are known to us, but also those unknown to us. When possible, we work with schools, day care facilities, churches, etc. to help citizens, especially children, recognize the signs of abuse and what steps to take if abuse is detected. Helping children understand that concept is the first step in stopping the abuse. We encourage the community to provide MCSO with information regarding sex offenders that they believe to be in violation by calling 704-336-8730.
We also provide user-friendly access to the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry via our website. As well, the Sheriff’s Office works regularly with our partners in the State and Federal Law Enforcement realm, specifically, the US Marshals Service (the agency tasked with the enforcement of the Adam Walsh Act,) the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, North Carolina Office of Probation and Parole, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to the seven local police departments in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Matthews, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Mint Hill and Pineville) the Sheriff’s Office maintains regular contact with the contiguous counties in both North and South Carolina and those jurisdictions to which offenders are moving to and counties from which offenders have come. Working together, we can make a difference in keeping our community safe.
