PRISON RAPE ELIMINATION ACT (PREA) – §115.54 THIRD PARTY REPORTING
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has a zero tolerance for all forms of sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment within the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office detention facilities. MCSO will immediately respond to allegations, fully investigate reported alleged incidents, pursue disciplinary action based upon the outcome of the investigations in accordance with the PREA standards, and refer for prosecution those who perpetrate prohibited conduct. Allegations involving potentially criminal behavior shall be conducted by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
HOW TO REPORT SEXUAL ABUSE AT THE MECKLENBURG COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Residents are encouraged to report all allegations of sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment immediately by:
- Informing any MCSO employee or volunteer, including medical staff
- Writing to the Office of Professional Compliance 901 Elizabeth Ave. Charlotte, NC 28204
- Contacting the PREA Coordinator via an resident grievance form
