In the weeks after George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25, 2020, nationwide protests called for changes in policing. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office reviewed it’s policies regarding use of force, de-escalation techniques, arrest procedures, cultural sensitivity training and the investigative process. These General Orders are the result of that review and were approved by Sheriff Garry L. McFadden.
