National Commission on Correctional Health care

What is NCCHC & why is it important to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO)?

The goal of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care is to improve the quality of health care in jails, prisons, and juvenile confinement facilities. NCCHC is the only national organization dedicated solely to improving correctional health care quality. This is accomplished by establishing rigorous standards for health services in correctional facilities, operating a voluntary accreditation program for institutions that meet those standards, offering certification for correctional health professionals, conducting educational conferences and webinars, and producing industry-specific publications and other resources. MCSO requires all Contracted Providers to meet the standards promulgated by all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations and guidelines and the standards required by the NCCHC, the gold standard for correctional health services in America. NCCHC Accreditations are not handed out lightly. They reflect the hard work by the Sheriff’s Office, Detention Staff, and our Healthcare Professionals to meet the highest standards and follow best practices in resident care, safety, and operations. NCCHC accreditation is a voluntary process that evaluates correctional health services in key areas including patient care, safety, governance, and medical-legal standards.
